My gramma volunteered at the hospital. She was a "Pink Lady", derived I'm sure from the shiny nylon uniform she wore at the hospital. There were young volunteers too--the "Candy Stripers" also based on the pink/white striped uniforms.
This star is an homage to all the volunteers that do good, without financial renumeration. Thank you!
